Safety Reminder: Proceed With Caution in Icy Conditions

As extreme low temperatures continue following the recent winter storm, members are urged to use extra caution when traveling and using LOWA amenities.

Refreezing conditions and potential black ice may remain present on roadways, parking lots, sidewalks, and around amenity areas—especially during morning and evening hours. Please walk and drive carefully and allow extra time when moving throughout the community.

Our roads and facilities teams are still out in the community and continuing operations. Crews are moving through the community; however, progress will be slower due to the extremely cold temperatures.

At this time, bare pavement is not a realistic expectation, as conditions continue to cause refreezing.

Important Information for Members:

Orange County Emergency Services is the incident command for this weather event. In the event of an emergency, DO NOT call Security, please CALL 911.

Due to icy road conditions, Security is responding only to critical non-emergency calls involving immediate safety or property risks.

Please do not contact Security for routine requests. Check on neighbors when possible.

For emergencies, call 911.

IMPORTANT – STORM EMERGENCY REPORTING
Because this is a named storm, all emergencies must be reported correctly.
If you encounter any emergency, including but not limited to:
• Downed or suspected power lines
• Motor vehicle crashes
• Medical emergencies
• Trees on vehicles or structures
• Any immediate life-safety concern
➡️CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY

Do NOT Call the Firehouse.
Do NOT call Security as your first point of contact.
Neither Security nor the Fire Station phone line is a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP):
• They are not monitored continuously
• They do not have the required call-taking, dispatch, recording, or redundancy systems
• Calling them delays fire, EMS, law enforcement, and utility response
Only Orange County E-911 Center can properly receive, prioritize, dispatch, and document emergency calls.

Why This Matters During a Named Storm
During a named storm:
• All calls for service must go through 911/ECC
• Calls are formally tracked and documented
• This data supports state and federal reimbursement
• Calls made to HOA lines or station phones do not count for response tracking or recovery funding
If it did not go through 911 / Orange County ECC, it may not be captured for official storm response and reimbursement purposes.

Bottom Line
✅Call 911 for any emergency
❌Do not call the HOA Security
❌Do not call the firehouse directly
✅Let trained, equipped professionals respond
✅Ensure accurate storm documentation and recovery. When seconds matter, make the right call the first time. Call 911.

Snow Removal Process For Lake of the Woods:

Snow removal is conducted in order of priority.
For Full details go our Snow Removal Process page:
  1. Entrance and exit at main gate.
  2. Fire and Rescue entrances.
  3. Lakeview Parkway, rear entrance and Equestrian Center.
  4. Secondary (feeder) roads, with emphasis on hills, curves, and intersections. During periods of heavy accumulations of snow, these roads may be kept plowed to a one lane width.
  5. Except for an emergency, all other roads, cul-de-sacs, and dead-ends will be plowed when the accumulation of snow terminates. Removal will then be done systematically, section by section, until all roads are open.
  6. Mailbox stations and trash compactor site.
  7. Parking lots. (Parking lots for Association offices and facilities will be cleared prior to opening for business.)
Consider waiting to shovel your driveway until the storm is over. There is no way to plow the roads without pushing the snow and ice into members’ driveways. When shoveling your driveway, push the snow at the street edge to the right side of your driveway when facing the street. This will insure minimal throwback from the plow onto the driveway.

Also, please remember not to park your vehicles on the side of the road. Do not park close to the edge of the road. Parking behind the culvert pipe in your driveway is a good rule of thumb.

Sledding in Lake of the Woods:

Sledding in LOWA common areas is only permitted in parks or on the hills of the Clubhouse parking lot. Sledding is NOT permitted on Veterans Dam, Keatons Dam or on the golf course.
