Equestrian Center

The Lake of the Woods Equestrian Center is a year-round hub for horse lovers of all ages and experience levels. Whether you’re looking for your first riding lesson, a fun pony ride, or a guided trail adventure, our dedicated staff and well-trained horses make every experience safe, enjoyable, and memorable.

The Center is home to LOWA-owned lesson horses and ponies, as well as boarded equines. Our facilities include a large show ring, a covered schooling ring, five dry lot paddocks with sheds, and two barns with 21 stalls, wash stalls, tack rooms, and feed rooms.

Fall Youth Riding Scholarship Program – Applications Closed

Fall 2026 Youth Riding Scholarship Program applications have closed. These scholarships provide five riding lessons at the LOW Equestrian Center for eligible youth ages 7–18 who reside in Lake of the Woods.

This scholarship offers a wonderful opportunity for young riders to build confidence, develop new skills, and experience the many benefits of horseback riding.

Applications Are Closed. Scholarship Winners will be announced soon. Spring 2027 Youth Riding Scholarships will open applications in Spring 2027. Stay tuned for more details to come.

Summer Programs

Pony Camp

Our one-week Pony Camp is perfect for young, beginner riders ages seven and up who want to learn the basics in a fun and safe environment. Campers gain hands-on experience riding, grooming, and tacking horses, with activities tailored to their age and skill level. Half-day sessions run from late June through mid-August. Spaces fill quickly, so sign up early!

Year-Round Programs

Trail Rides

Experience guided trail rides through the scenic Wilderness Battlefield. Riders must be at least 12 years old, with a maximum of three guests per ride. Due to horse and pony size limitations, guests over 200 lbs cannot be accommodated.

Pony Rides

Perfect for younger riders, our 15-minute pony rides are hand-guided at the walk. Rides are available during normal operating hours for $15 per ride and at Equestrian Center Open Houses for just $5 per ride.

Lessons

Private and group lessons are available by appointment for riders ages 7 and up. Students learn riding, tacking, grooming, and age-appropriate horsemanship skills. Lessons are offered rain or shine, with a covered ring available.

Youth Riding Scholarship

The Lake of the Woods Equestrian Center offers a Youth Riding Scholarship twice a year—spring and fall—to help young residents explore their interest in horses. Each scholarship covers five riding lessons with experienced trainers who focus on skill development, safety, and horse welfare.

Riders gain not only equestrian skills but also balance, coordination, perseverance, and confidence. The program makes riding accessible to youth who might not otherwise have the opportunity.

Eligibility & Application

LOW residents aged 7–18 with parental approval
Submit a brief statement of interest
Selection based on need and motivation by Equestrian Committee members

Fall 2026 Scholarship Application

Supported by Friends of Lake of the Woods (FLOW), a nonprofit organization, the program is funded through community contributions, which may be tax-deductible.

The Youth Riding Scholarship provides a chance for young members to develop riding skills, confidence, and a lifelong love of horses.
