I was disappointed in their May 20 meeting the Board entertained a motion to prohibit a Board member from holding a position on an external entity’s board. How many former Board members have served concurrently on Lions, FLOW, LOWLinc, LOW Church, (and etc.) without apparent conflict?
With RSA, how often have LOW members complained RSA is not responsive to our community concerns? Volunteer participation in common can only help coordination. We should be cheering a volunteer that chooses to influence RSA and represent LOW interests, not censure him.
On conflicts of interest, the Board wasted time on the theoretical need for recusal. I believe that LOW is closer to any volunteer’s heart than an unpaid position on a utility provider board. Ironic that nobody on the Board pointed out the obvious conflict of two candidates for the Board election participating in discussion and voting on a measure that involves placing limits on a competing candidate. Then the approved motion… incur attorney fees. I much prefer the General Manager’s advice to provide specific board training and exercise vigilance.
This discussion provided me with a valuable differentiator when I consider my vote for the candidates in the upcoming election.

On May 15th, the Living Water Community Clinic held its 6th Annual Golf Tournament at Lake of the Woods Golf Course. The weather was perfect! Eric Barnes did all the preparatory work to make sure his staff could assist on the day of the tournament. The staff did a perfect job in making sure the tournament was held without one glitch. Our thanks to Eric, Larry, Michele, Dewey, and Rich. We appreciate all your efforts in making this fundraiser a success for our Clinic.
If your organization is considering a golf tournament, you should consider holding it as the Lake of the Woods Golf Course!
