Soon we will be electing a new Board of directors with the hope that substantial cost overruns as seen in the front gate and Patrick Henry capital projects and depletion of our reserve accounts to cover those costs will not reoccur. Owners should demand that annual budgets be followed and any deviance requiring additional monies from reserve accounts be clearly justified at board meetings and clearly noted in Lake Currents. Further, capital project costs should be clearly noted monthly in Lake Currents showing the original budget amount and current expenses in plain English and not buried in financial reports. Money transferred from reserved accounts in excess of budget should be noted as charge orders and not a new budget number. There are nine candidates vying for the LOWA board vacancies with two candidates asking for another three years. Please carefully look at all candidates’ bios when casting your ballot.

Each year, members of Lake of the Woods Association elect directors whose decisions affect our finances, amenities, property values, and quality of life. The question is not who makes the best campaign promises, but who possesses the judgment and leadership to govern on behalf of the entire Association.
A Board member's duty is not to poll public opinion, represent a particular neighborhood or interest group, or simply follow the loudest voices. Directors are elected to exercise independent judgment, uphold our governing documents, and make informed decisions that serve the community's long-term interests. That responsibility requires preparation, thoughtful deliberation, respect for the distinct roles of the Board and General Manager, and a commitment to faithfully carrying out the duties of the office.
For these reasons, I strongly support the election of Frank Heisler and Fred Lange. Frank has consistently demonstrated sound judgment, integrity, and a commitment to governing in the best interests of the Association. Fred has invested the time to understand LOWA's operations and has shown the preparation, strategic thinking, and dedication necessary to serve effectively from day one.
Vote for candidates who are prepared to lead and fulfill the office's responsibilities, and who are committed to serving the entire community.

A few months ago Lake Currents had a listing of assessments paid by year for decades. Over the years we have contracted out golf course maintenance, pool maintenance, landscaping, and we are considering doing the same for dredging. At the same time we do not have tar and chipping of roads that we have done for decades. Would you please share with members the number of employees and gallons of gas by years over the decades. There should be significant reductions. The latter requests does not address equipment which should have also seen reductions and savings.
