Clubs wishing to be listed on this site can complete the form above. A phone number or email as well as a name of a point of contact is required.

Activities and clubs are open to all residents and tenants of LOW, although some organizations may have specific unique membership requirements. Although every effort has been made to offer a complete listing, new clubs form and inactive clubs disband from time to time. Some clubs have chosen not to be included here. These clubs and groups are not directly affiliated with Lake of the Woods Association, however they are listed as a courtesy.

Any member or tenant in may initiate a new club following demonstration of sufficient interest by LOWA members and approval of the General Manager. Advertising in Lake Currents is available to solicit members for newly organized clubs is available by calling the Communications Office, 540-972-2278.


AARP Chapter 5239

Meets at 10am on the third Monday of each month in the Clubhouse Great Hall. (Social 9:30am).
AARP is a non-profit social and service organization for people age 50 and over. The Chapter addresses the needs and interests of seniors through monthly programs, sponsored trips and volunteer opportunities. Chapter activities provide for socializing and meeting others. Dues: $10/year.  
Battlefield Boogie Club

The Battlefield Boogie Club is a dance club that promotes the Carolina Shag. The Club is open to folks of all ages who like to dance. The Club has by-laws of operation, elected officers, quarterly board and general membership meetings. Meeting times and locations vary, please contact Audrey. The Club has their own DJs and hold their dances at the LOW Clubhouse, as well as the Loft in Fredericksburg. 
Bocce Club

Minimal exertion, maximum payout in fun, friendly competition. Bocce is enjoyed by all ages and fitness levels, is easy to learn and a great social time! The LOW Bocce Club has courts at Sweetbriar Park and offers league play, tournaments, Open Play and free lessons. There's a nominal membership fee, but non-members can also pay to play in the league or tournaments. Monthly meetings are the 3rd Thursdays at 7pm. Bridge (Wednesday- Friday- Sunday)

Duplicate Bridge: This non-sanctioned, social group meets weekly on Sunday evenings. First-timers please contact the current director in advance. Bring a partner!
Friday Bridge: (general and refresher) This social, contract bridge group meets weekly. New players must call the monthly director in advance so tables can be arranged.
Ladies Bridge: This social, contract bridge group meets Wednesdays for six rounds of play, mid-morning to mid-afternoon, with a break for lunch. Please call the director in advance so tables can be arranged. See the "Calendar of Events" in Lake Currents on each respective day to locate contact person.
Chess Club

 The Knights of the Lake Chess Club joust on the field of battle also known as the chess board. The chess club is open to all the king’s people, from squires who want to learn chess to nobles who want to improve their level of chess. Meets from 6:30-8:30 every Thursday at the Community Center. 
Civil War Study Group

The study group is collecting information on events/activities at the Battle of the Wilderness with particular attention to those occurring in LOW. Intent is to add to the understanding of what happened where and its impact. Free and open to all with an interest in history. The local LOW Chapter of the National Society DAR sponsors historic, patriotic and educational community service programs that serve students, those who have recently become US citizens, military veterans and genealogical researchers. Current projects include local and DAR schools, V.A. Medical Center, sponsorship of lineage research workshops and preservation of Spottswood sites within LOW. Membership is open to women age 18 and older who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution. Meets monthly.   
Democratic Club

The focus of the Democratic Club is to become better informed about national, state, and local governments and the matters before them. The Club educates its members on wide-ranging issues and how to be strong advocates for these issues. A service project for the community is undertaken annually. Meetings are held monthly, with topical guest speakers and political activities. Dues: $30/yr. Meets the second Wednesday each month in the Clubhouse, Lower Level at 1 pm. 
Farm Team

If you want to have fun learning how to play golf or refreshing your game, join us at 4:30 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of each month from May until October. You will learn the basics of golf, meet new friends, and have a few laughs. Don't let a good walk be spoiled by a bad swing!
Fire & Rescue Auxiliary
The Auxiliary is recruiting members to assist the Fire & Rescue with varied and fun jobs. We work on EMS day and help with the annual Banquet to name a few. The Fire & Rescue Auxiliary meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 2 pm in the Community Center.

Fun Bowling League

The LOW Fun Bowling League is a sanctioned, recreational mixed league for both men and women (over 40) that meets for 24 weeks from October through April at the AMF Bowling Lanes in Fredericksburg. Singles welcome. We bowl Thursdays at 1pm. There are 24 teams on this league not including 15-20 substitute bowlers who step in during the bowling season when a regular member cannot be available.

The LOW Garden Club is a nonprofit group that joined in 1978 with the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs. Their objective is to serve LOW through civic and beautification endeavors. Annual fundraising activities enable continuation of these projects. The Club is responsible for the Memorial Garden (across from the Holcomb Building), the Clubhouse Garden, and the Wilderness Library Garden. Other activities include decorating the Clubhouse for the winter holidays and judging the LOW Holiday Lights contest. Meetings with featured speakers are held monthly; new members are always welcome. Field trips and workshops are often held as well. Annual dues are $25. The Happy Tails Dog Club is a non-profit group of dog lovers that formed in June of 2017.  The mission of the Club is to provide a safe and healthful environment for Club Member dogs to play and socialize with other dogs. The dog park is located at the Life Estates parcel adjacent to the small marina located off Lakeview Parkway. The park’s use will be for The Happy Tails Club members only. The Happy Tails Club meets every 4th Tuesday at the Community Center at 7 PM in Classroom 2.  To join the Happy Tails Dog Club or have your questions answered, please email us.
Ladies Bowling League

Ladies Golf Association

The LGA invites you to join us on Tuesdays from April through October. Play golf with either the 9 or 18 hole groups. The 2021 season opens on April 6th with a fun scramble. Our Spring Lunch is on Friday April 9. The cost is $3/week, plus any applicable cart and/or greens fees. Members are flighted based on handicap and four-person teams are set up. Membership is open to all female LOW property owners, tenants and/or their dependent daughters age 18 or over. Annual dues are $25. Members are required to have a handicap. The $38 handicap fee is paid directly to the Pro Shop. We have special tournaments throughout the year;  Spring Tournament, Member/Guest  Sadie Hawkins President's Cup, Member/Member and  Cancer Tournament. The season ends with a fun scramble at the end of October, with a closing luncheon and awards ceremony.

The LOW Lioness Club is a non-profit women's community service group that organizes and hosts many fundraising activities throughout the year to support various local charitable organizations and causes. Dinner meetings take place on the second Thursday of every month. Activities include a Fall and Spring Fashion Show, a fall book and bake sale, a Spring Flea Market/Craft Fair, food drives to benefit the Wilderness Food Pantry, assistance with the Lions Club Eye glass recycling program, sponsoring of an ice cream social and Christmas gift wrapping day at Childhelp as well as many other community service projects. Interested residents are asked to contact the President or Membership Chair. The LOW Lioness Club meets the second Thursday of each month at 6pm at the LOW Clubhouse.

The LOW Lions Club, chartered in 1982, is a member of the world’s largest service club organization, Lions Clubs International. The LOW Lions Club supports the local community through many service projects such as the Wilderness Food Pantry, medical equipment loans, donations and grants to other local non-profit organizations, American Red Cross Blood Drives, sight and hearing screening for Orange County school students, classroom grants for local teachers and college scholarships for area students. The Club also sponsors LEO Clubs for local middle and high school students. An active eyeglass recycling program provides thousands of eyeglasses for worldwide distribution. Fundraising activities, including the Club’s popular weekly Yard Sale, generate the funds needed to support these important service projects. Member meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of every month at 5:30 PM at the LOW Clubhouse. We encourage men and women who enjoy serving others to join our club.

There is no business like show business. Join the LOW Players and help bring entertainment and cultural enrichment to the community. Each year, the Players stage two theater productions, performed in the LOW Community Center, with a different set designed and constructed for each play. We welcome your participation, no matter how great or small-either or backstage. Areas in which we could use your talents include (but aren't limited to) acting, dancing, music (voice or instrument), set design and construction, costume design, sound, lighting, and stage management. You are invited to attend any of our meetings, which are held in the Community Center on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 pm. The Lake of the Woods Veterans Club (LOW Vets) meets on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm in the Clubhouse lower level.  Club membership is open to all LOW veterans who have been honorably discharged, retired, released for medical reasons, currently on active duty or serving in our reserve forces. The purpose of the Club is to promote patriotism and the principles and ideals of American citizenship through a series of programs, guest speakers and participation in Lake of the Woods activities like Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Veteran’s Day.  Club meetings are open to the public.

If you're an artist or an art lover, we welcome you to join Lake of the Woods Arts (formerly LOWVAC).  We meet monthly on the first Monday at 2pm in the Community Center to develop our creativity, share our art and learn from one another. Our Annual Fine Art Show and Sale is held in the Fall to showcase LOW artists and their art and support the art programs in the Orange County schools through a raffle of fine art. Men's Golf Association

The purpose of the MGA is to promote and encourage the game of golf in cooperation with the Golf Pro, the LOW Golf Committee and the LGA. The goal of the MGA is to bring men together to provide a social outlet and to promote and improve the quality of golf at LOW. The MGA also serves as an advocate for our golf course amenity. The MGA hosts numerous tournaments and activities throughout the year. Membership is open to male property owners and/or tenants and their dependents 18 years of age and older. Dues are $20/year. Annual  Virginia State Golf Association handicap fees are payable through the Pro Shop. 
MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers)

Mothers of Preschoolers is a study, fellowship, recreational and social group for moms of kindergarten age children and younger. Activities include adult study, Bible study, crafts and play time with children. Child care provided; walk-ins welcome. Annual registration fee; fee assistance available. MOPS meets every first and third Wednesdays from 9:15 AM to 11:15 AM. The meetings take place at The LOW Church in the Founders Room and childcare is downstairs.

Pickleball is a fast growing, fun & exciting sport that can be adapted for all skill levels. The LOW Pickleball Club is socially active and welcomes all adults 18 years of age and older. Played with a paddle and whiffle-style ball, it is typically played as doubles, inside or on LOW's well maintained outside courts. Adult Pickleball is played indoors at the Community Center every M-F from 9:30 AM to 3 PM. Free Beginners Class is offered without requiring amenity or Club membership. We have equipment, including paddles, that can be used if you would like to give this sport a try. Wear dedicated indoor court shoes (not jogging shoes) since we play on a gym floor. Come join the best amenity at LOW.

Softball Fun League

This is an independent "for fun" softball league sponsored by the LOW Church and open to everyone regardless of age, experience or level of ability. Men's teams play modified fast pitch and co-ed teams play modified slow pitch. The season runs from April through September with games played at Hollyfield Park on Monday and Thursday at 7pm, and on Saturday from 9am to 1pm.

Square dancing is a healthy activity for the mind and body that can be easily enjoyed by people of all ages. No special skills are involved. Club members dance on the second, fourth and fifth Friday of each month at the Community Center Gym from 7:00-9:00 pm. Instruction for new dancers is offered on Tuesday evenings from mid-September to April from 7:00 - 9:00 pm at the Clubhouse, lower level. Club dues and class tuition are nominal. Wilderness Friends of the Library

This group welcomes individuals at all skill levels interested in woodworking projects, which include cabinetry, furniture, modeling and whittling. More advanced members teach and guide those with less experience. Meetings are held Fourth Tuesday of each month at the Community Center from 7 - 9 pm.
